Essential
Oils have been used in many cultures, for thousands of years, for
medicinal and health purposes. Essential Oils can be used internally,
topically and as aromatherapy. Please do your research before using
EO's (especially, if you are looking to use them internally or
topically – some can cause irritation and others' should not be
ingested).
According to WebMD.com, “Aromatherapy may promote
relaxation and help relieve stress.”
These oils are extracted from flowers, fruit, seeds, twigs, and root and can have beneficial effects.
Our sense of smell can impact how
we feel. Think about it. How do you feel when you smell your
favorite dessert? Or how do you feel when you are behind a stinky car
or truck. Did you know that you body can distinguish a little over
10,000 different scents?
Some oils used in aromatherapy can be
comforting, nurturing, calming, while others can be energizing,
uplifting, and refreshing. Still other oils can be purifying,
relaxing, and soothing. Aromatherapy can also aid with relief of
minor discomforts and also help boost the immune, respiratory, and
circulatory systems.
Aromatherapy, while it should not replace
your own doctor's advice, but can be a natural complementary health
treatment in many situations. Just remember to do your research!
