Sushi Scopes

June 2020
By Lalia Wilson

June is going to be as impactful astrologically as May, but for different reasons. May had three planets going retrograde within four days, May 10-14, so that was a big psychic bump. June has the Cancer Solstice on the 20th followed within hours by a Solar Eclipse at that first degree of Cancer. This will most impact anyone with planets or points near zero degrees of the cardinal signs. As if the eclipse isn’t enough, Mercury will turn retrograde on June 18th, the 17th in most of the U.S., and will provide its usual opportunities and problems. For most of us it is an excellent time to redo any projects that need revision. It’s a good time for filing and organizing. But expect more problems in communications, travel, and mail. As always the two Mercury-ruled signs, Gemini and Virgo, plus Cancer (where Mercury is this month) will be the most affected by this eclipse.

When drawing from tarot I do a collective reading from any cards that are duplicated (something that is possible since four different decks are used). This month has three duplicated cards: The Tower (which was duplicated last month as well), The Chariot, and The Moon. The Tower card definitely resonates with the solar eclipse. The Chariot may indicate a need for vehicle maintenance, or just an urge to be running around town. The Moon card may indicate zoning out at home during this time of relative isolation. Summer is usually a time of being out and about. This year in the northern hemisphere many locations have public spaces closed, or with only limited access. In my town there will be no summer school programs, no summer camps, and no public swimming pool or swimming lessons. It will be especially hard on children and their parents over this summer. Let us hope that by the time summer arrives in the southern hemisphere things are looking better regarding the pandemic.

This month the Fire signs are depicted by the Science Tarot (2010) created by Logan Austeja Daniel, Martin Azevedo, and Raven Hanna, Ph.D.  Artwork by Janelle Schneider (Wands), Kristy Whitehouse (Pentacles), Sheri Ari DeBoer (Swords), Tammy Stellanova (Cups), and Kristian Johnson Michaels (Major Arcana). Graphics by John Daniel. Available at https://www.exploratoriumstore.com/products/science-tarot. The Earth signs are shown by the Modern Spellcaster’s Tarot (2016) created by Melanie Marquis, illustrated by Scott Murphy and published by Llewellyn. (This deck is reviewed elsewhere in this issue of Tarot Reflections.) The Air signs are represented by the Hexen 2.0 Tarot (2009) created by Suzanne Treister and published by Black Dog Publishing. Water Signs are shown by the Cook’s Tarot (2015), created by Judith Mackay Stirt and published by Schiffer.

I choose various decks to illustrate each month’s drawings so as to show the versatility and variety of tarot, lenormand, or oracle cards, and to emphasize a particular season or sign. Also because some are my favorites.

Aries: The Hermit and the Eight of Cups:

Dear Aries, both cards suggest this time of isolation which must be getting to you. As a person who is on the move more than most, it is difficult. In addition, you are likely having vivid dreams, not all pleasant. Your personal fears of sickness and death are needlessly limiting you now. The eclipse activates your home and family sector, expect some action on that front. Travel and communications problems may arise the second half of the month, as well as family issues.

Taurus: The Tower and the Four of Wands:

Taurus Spellcasters Tarot June 2020 20200516 0001

Dear Taurus, the Four of Wands is a repeat from last month. One reading of this two-card combination is stress, major upset, over wedding plans. And certainly if you are in a locked down area, or your family and guests are, a June wedding is either not going to happen or is going to be highly modified. Whatever was in your mind for June is unlikely to happen in the way you imagined. Siblings and cousins may feature in the news items in your world this month. Carefully watch your money and travel arrangements this month.

Gemini: The Star and the Seven of Swords:

Gemini

Dear Gemini, travel may figure into your plans this month, as you may be one of the few people on the road. Career is highlighted. Your income is likely to noticeably change in either direction. The Seven of Swords cautions you to deal honestly with all, while considering that many will lie to you for their own purposes. When Mercury, your ruling planet, goes retrograde you need to calm down as you tend to anxiety. So destress and plan for activities that are calming.

Cancer: The Tower and the Seven of Wands:

Cancer

Dear Cancer, the Tower is a repeat from last month, suggesting that whatever happened then is still happening. You will find yourself more in the center of things this month, a more prominent position than you usually desire. Be prepared to defend your reputation—to stand up for yourself. At the same time you may feel less certain about your life. Have faith.

Leo: The Moon and the Three of Cups:

Leo Science Tarot June 2020 20200516 0001

Dear Leo, this is a month to abstain from any medicines not prescribed by your healthcare professional. Given the pandemic many may have ideas of what we might call “folk cures.” Use common sense as some touted remedies may be harmful, even lethal. Psychically, you are “hot” this month. You are so hot that you need to take active measures to ground yourself and to protect yourself from bad energy. As always, friends are a godsend, Mercury’s retrograde may be causing havoc for them.

Virgo: The Emperor and the Two of Wands:

Dear Virgo, the pandemic is not an abstract for you. Your work makes the pandemic a reality, whether you are a healthcare professional or not. Your ability to see possibilities and to organize gives you the opportunity to make the world better for others through an idea or an invention. Go for it! Friends will bring unexpected events to you. In the long run these will be positive but that may not be apparent when they arrive. Don’t plan any big publicity for yourself or your organization for after mid-month.

Libra: The Chariot and the Eight of Chalices/Cups:

Libra

Dear Libra, career and work are your focus this month. Yes, the isolation is effecting you, but it is also giving you some time for reflection which will yield both spiritual and career benefits. The Chariot has a number of meanings, one is your vehicle. Do you need to take care of your car this month? The Chariot also impacts your public reputation and career. Something will break open this month, giving you an opportunity of a lifetime. The boss may be thick-headed the second half of the month. If that’s you, take lots of time for reality checks.

Scorpio: Temperance and the Page of Swords:

Scorpio

Dear Scorpio, though you are given to intense emotions, often internalized, this month you are asked to be temperate, to walk the middle path. In particular be especially prudent with your money and personal possessions. Moneywise, don’t spend all you have and avoid increasing your credit line. In the meantime, some serious matter has arisen regarding your residence or family of origin. You may have maintenance issues with your house, or an older relative moving in with you. Be objective and seek information before making decisions. Some event far away will change your life this month. Long distant communications are difficult after the 17th. You may not be getting all the news about those in ill health.

Sagittarius: The Magician and the Seven of Pentacles:

Sagittarius Science Tarot June 2020 20200516 0001

Dear Sagittarius, with Mercury turning retrograde your mate may be difficult and your sex life the same. Not everyone is as even tempered as you are, nor as philosophical. The time is right to think deep thoughts and to pursue a line of thought you abandoned earlier. This month’s activity is going to be mostly in your mind.

Capricorn: The Hanged Man and the Nine of Wands:

Capricorn Spellcasters Tarot June 2020 20200516 0001

Dear Capricorn, well it looks like you are tired of staying at home and coping with the challenges you find there. What will most soothe you is water. If possible spend some time by the sea, lake or river. Allow your thoughts to wander. Be inspired. The focus for you is within, on recuperation, on allowing yourself to rest and create the space for what’s next in your life. Your partner, usually steadfast and supportive, now seems a bit off and needs support—support from you.

Aquarius: The Moon and the King of Swords:

Aquarius

Dear Aquarius, so much has been going on behind the scenes, but now the time for going public is nearly here. Pay attention to your finances. Allow your good mind and logic to be part of all your decisions, especially any having to do with finances. Your health needs monitoring this month. Pay attention. Children, or old lovers, may be moving back home.

Pisces: The Chariot and the Queen of Coins:

Dear Pisces, love is in the air but several indications for caution with regard to love apply now. Venus is retrograde, always a time to be careful in love, and Mercury, the ruler of your partner, turns retrograde. Plus you have a solar eclipse activating affairs. So one reading of this is that you have an affair and regret it later. Another is the return of an old love in your life. Don’t count on that person until mid-summer, after the eclipse and the direct stations of Venus and Mercury. Money looks good.

You can use these Tarot Scopes to read your Sun sign, Moon sign or Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant). You can determine these by using free or low cost apps, or internet sites, and inputting your time, date and place of birth. The Rising sign indicates your entire life; the Sun sign is about your ego and creative forces, and the Moon sign is about your reigning needs, emotions, and flexibility.

The tarot cards used as illustrations for this column are ones that I or the editor, Terri Clement, admire and want to share with you. Note that decks have subtle differences of meaning as they are reinterpreted by a new creator/artist, and, of course, the tarot reader. Enjoy that flexibility of meaning and the artwork of these various decks. Reading articles with illustrations like these will help you determine the tarot decks that most fit you.
